Happy Mother's Day!

Copied from Wikipedia
The "Mother's Day Proclamation" by Julia Ward Howe was one of the early calls to celebrate Mother's Day in the United States. Written in 1870, Howe's Mother's Day Proclamation was a pacifist reaction to the carnage of the American Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War. The Proclamation was tied to Howe's feminist belief that women had a responsibility to shape their societies at the political level.

and:
Early "Mother's Day" was mostly marked by women's peace groups.[1] A common early activity was the meeting of groups of mothers whose sons had fought or died on opposite sides of the American Civil War. In New York City, Julia Ward Howe led a "Mother's Day" anti-war observance in 1872[1][2], which was accompanied by a Mother's Day Proclamation. The observance continued in Boston for about ten years under Howe's personal sponsorship, then died out.[3]

So it was not about sending flowers or buying your mom jewelry, it was about how mothers don't want their children to be used as pawns in wars. Remember that.

Does this mean my reactions are based on guilt and messages about food, as well as emotional eating? Very Interesting.

What do you think about when you're feeling down?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 19, 2008:

I usally think about how much I've hurt other people in the past, the mistakes I've made, the choices I've made that put me where I am now. Lots of regrets that I focus on too much. I have a hard time trying to move my mind off certain things that cause me pain, and seem to get stuck on feeling helpless.

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 17, 2008:

My friends, my knowledge that my death would hurt some of them, and my family. And my unwillingness to find out what happens when we die.

What's the best thing about where you live?

Lots of kids for my son to play with, when he feels like it. Although mostly he just wants to play with the girl downstairs (she's more gentle than most of the boys that hang around the playground near our apartment). It's walking distance to two grocery stores. You can also walk to Target if you so choose.
